Revelstoke is a cool place, and although it’s known as a major stop for thrill seekers, dare devils and those looking to test their mettle on the plethora of extreme outdoor hotspots, it really shouldn’t be overlooked for families, ever.
As a family, we sit somewhere in-between, Dad is an adrenaline junky, Mom likes to be leisurely in the landscape and well our son, aged 7, likes to just about go anywhere and do anything as long as he can look cool doing it. Revy ticks the boxes for that exact reason, there is something for everyone. In my opinion, there isn’t a better place to base yourself from than VRGE.
Many times, in the mountains, we have stayed in places where the noise, partying and late evening shenanigans have caused an issue for us travelling with kids, especially when we look for somewhere more outdoorsy and less of a corporate chain. VRGE is an explorer’s paradise that balances this out perfectly for us, there is space to relax in the hot tub and in the lawned patios, enjoy food and cocktails in the bar and firepit, but also peel away early, to our room, as the revelers continue into the night, you won’t be left with the nasty aftertaste of being woken up periodically by those more akin to the party than the pre sunrise hikes we can get to right from the door!

What is really cool here in Revelstoke is the surrounds and what you can get up too. Recently opened again, the Giant Cedar Boardwalk was a true highlight for us and is just a stones throw up Highway 1. The kids are not blessing you with the usual “are we nearly there yet” and we found our little one thoroughly enjoyed walking around and hugging the countless giant cedars that adorn your route. There are tons of these special spots available from the door, including walking the Columbia with your coffee as you look up to Begbie, Mount Revelstoke and the surrounding peaks.
Very high up on our list of favourites in Revelstoke is the farmers market, held monthly during the season, attracting the best of local to the townsfolk and visitors alike. From fresh honey, jerky and fruit and veg, to local artwork and crafts. Given downtown Revy has a plethora of permanent shops to go along with the market, not to mention the ice cream parlours, there is something for the whole group!
We always hit up the Revy Museum while in town with the kids, lots to see and do in there, and the team is always keen to get the younger generations involved and excited over how the town came to be. This can be tied in with the railway museum which from experience, is great for adults too!

There is still so much we are yet to do in Revy, and we will be back soon to VRGE to cross things such as the Revy Coaster and high ropes, rafting, a myriad of easy trails to cycle and hike with the kids and, despite already hearing the cries of objections, fly fishing opportunities for Dad! All in all, you really can not go wrong in Revelstoke for a family getaway, just make it extra special and stay at VRGE, its perfect for collapsing into a relaxed and friendly vibe when your day is through. Check out the visitor centre online before you go, or while your in town and you will see just how much there is for the family looking for adventure.
See you soon VRGE Revy!
